Three guitars, a double bass, a violin – the quintet »Duke & Dukies« plays European swing in the tradition of Django Reinhardt. The program includes gems from the Hot Club de France, as well as Eastern folklore and the occasional bolero. Despite nostalgic echoes, Duke & Dukies are no musical museum, but five musicians with timeless verve.
This much passion is also worth listening to. Green Empire designed the record cover for the first pressing from what is likely the world’s smallest record press in Hamburg, the »Ameise« pressing plant. The lightness of the music is underscored by graceful calligraphy.
